I believed in God and tried to live in a way that please Him, but I often failed.

When I joined the University of Rwanda, Huye Campus, I discovered a group of believers called GBU (Groupe Biblique Universitaire), and I decided to join them. On just the second Sunday of fellowship, God revealed to me the depth of what Christ had done for me. In that moment, my heart was overwhelmed with love and gratitude for Him. That’s when I believed in the gospel. From then on, I devoted myself to studying Scripture and growing in my love for God, seeking ways to respond to His incredible sacrifice on the cross.

In my third year at university, I learned about the Perspective Course, which teaches God’s heart for His people. I enrolled, and it has truly transformed my life, vision, and ambitions for His glory among the nations.

I joined the course with three main expectations, all of which God exceeded:

Understanding my role in God’s mission – I learned that in going, sending, welcoming, mobilizing, and praying, I can and should actively participate wherever God places me, trusting Him at every step.

Contextualizing the gospel – The course helped me understand how to communicate God’s truth in a fallen culture while remaining faithful to His Word, through the “become like and remain like” principle.

Engaging with others – I used to struggle to approach and connect with strangers, especially internationals. The course taught me how to share the gospel effectively in different cultural contexts, even transforming my personality and confidence in interacting with people.

After finishing the Perspectives course, I started praying for ways to live out what I learned. That is when I connected with two Sudanese students in my class that I was blind to before I took the course. They are from a pure Muslim background, and I felt led to intentionally build a friendship with them.

We formed a study group, and over time, our friendship has started to grow. Right now, I’m just focusing on being present, kind, and trustworthy letting my life reflect Christ without rushing to speak. I’m trusting that in God’s timing, He’ll open the door to share with them good news of Jesus Christ.

I thank God for this course, which has deepened my love for Him, shaped my vision for missions, and equipped me to actively participate in His global mission. I highly recommend this course to every believer who desires to grow in knowledge and love for God, understand His heart for the nations, and be empowered to serve Him effectively in whatever role He calls me to.

My name is Elyse Christian HIMBAZIMANA and I grew up in a Christian family, attending church programs .
